Nancy

Olaeta

Nancy grew up on the peninsula around art and artists as her father was a professional artist. Art was always Nancy’s favorite subject in school and after raising a family and a career as a floral designer, she decided to concentrate on her artwork.

Nancy became interested in fused glass after taking a community college course. When her first piece came out of the kiln she said she had been hooked. Special fusing glass is cut, washed and reassembled. Frits (crushed glass ) and stringers (spaghetti like glass) are added before firing in a kiln to around 1465 degrees. She brings her skills as an oil painter and frequently adds to her pieces sometimes firing 3 or more times. Pieces that have a shape, have been slumped in another firing at a lower temperature. She has taken numerous workshops with glass artist Roger Thomas and continues to learn all she can about the art that dates back to the ancient Romans and Egyptians.

Nancy has a koi fish on display at CHOMP.

Nancy is a member of the Salinas Valley Art Gallery Art Unlimited.
